Thomas Jefferson on Preserving Government Records

Because there were virtually no formal procedures established for preserving historic government records, President Thomas Jefferson wrote this note describing his intentions for preserving the official records of his Presidency.

Today (since the administration of Herbert Hoover), the official records of the President are held by the National Archives and Records Administration in the Presidential Libraries.
