Post Office and Court House, New Orleans,
LA (two views) Constructed between 1909 and 1915 at a cost of
$2.5 million, the U.S. Post Office and Courthouse occupies an entire block
of downtown New Orleans. This design by James Gamble Rogers reflected
his interest in historical styles, especially those of the Italian Renaissance.
The monumental interior features wood paneling, high vaulted ceilings
with rich coffering, and arched stone entries and windows. The building
is now known as the John Minor Wisdom U.S. Court of Appeals Building.
