Post Office Designs: Akron, Ohio This Romanesque revival post office includes an
asymmetrically placed corner tower, steep conical roof segments, and bold
round-headed windows, a combination of features popularized by the famous
American architect H.H. Richardson. Built in stone, this design imparts
a feeling of great solidity. Another Richardson feature included here
is the series of small eye-like windows peering out of the steep center
roof. Although the design was signed by the Secretary of the Treasury,
the Postmaster General, and the Secretary of the Interior, this building
was not built.
