Bank Bill

"Message of the President returning the Bank Bill with his objections," July 10, 1832, selected pages

National Archives and Records Administration, Records of the U.S. Senate

Before Andrew Jackson became President, there had been only 10 Presidential vetoes. All of these had been issued on constitutional grounds. Jackson’s veto message of the bill rechartering of the Bank justified his action on political, economic, moral, as well as constitutional grounds.
