Briefings
We offer 1- or 2-hour briefings on a variety of records management topics. Typical audiences include senior managers and program managers who are responsible for program oversight but are not involved in the nitty-gritty of putting records management policy into practice. Briefings demonstrate the importance of records management to those who have final authority in assigning resources to records and information management programs. In short, briefings answer the question: "What is good records management, and why should I care?"
Briefing topics include:
- records management and the law,
- how good recordkeeping can keep an office program squeaky clean,
- how to select good vendors for off-the-shelf and custom-built records management services and products,
- and other high-level overview topics

Special Events and Programs
We host special meetings, open houses, tours, seminars, and conferences as occasion demands to keep the Federal community informed of the latest in records management.
- Our free annual Electronic Records Forum will be held at at the Ralph G. Metcalfe Federal Building in downtown Chicago, Wednesday, August 13, 2008. Our theme is case studies in implementing electronic
records management systems (ERMS). Representatives from two Federal agencies share their practical experience in implementing ERMS in the context of their agencies' existing record keeping practices and
requirements.
- Our 2007 E-Form, held in Indianapolis, attended by 75 records managers from Federal, state and local government as well as the business community, was a great opportunity for networking as well as learning.
Your registration will help ensure we are prepared for all attendees. Please contact:

Certification
NARA offers a Federal Records Management Certification program for those who take "Knowledge Area" (KA) courses 2 through 6 and successfully pass tests on course material. (KA 1, Records Management Overview, covers foundational knowledge on which other KAs are built, but is not required for certification.)
These knowledge areas are:
KA 2: Creating and Maintaining Agency Business Information
KA 3: Records Scheduling
KA 4: Records Schedule Implementation
KA 5: Asset and Risk Management
KA 6: Records Management Program Development
Customized Training
We can tailor any of the six KA courses to your agency's records schedule and records management policies and practices, but we may not be able to offer them for certification via exam.
We can tailor any of our non-Knowledge Area (KA) courses. We will work with you to customize curriculum to meet your specific needs and objectives. For instance, we can:
- take a standard package and edit it so that all examples are from your agency's records schedule and records management directives.
- We can teach them in your own agency space, saving you travel costs for multiple staff members.
