National Archives June Genealogy Workshop Series

Kansas City, (MO)…The National Archives at Kansas City will be offering the following free Genealogical Workshop Series during June.

Thursday, June 3 – 10:00 a.m. Introduction to Genealogical Research – This presentation will cover the basics of genealogy, how to get started with research and a brief overview of National Archives resources available - for free!

Friday, June 4 – 10:00 a.m. Introduction to Online Resources of NARA for Genealogists – This presentation will explore online genealogy resources found on the National Archives website. Learn about how to navigate through the different pages and locate essential information to assist and answer genealogy inquiries.

Saturday, June 5 – 9:30 a.m. Beyond the Basics of Finding Aids – This workshop will be presented via interactive distance learning from Washington D.C. Claire Kluskens will present a special workshop on finding aids. Participants will learn how to go beyond the basic genealogy research skills to use National Archives finding aids. A hands-on research activity will be included in this workshop.

The National Archives at Kansas City is one of 13 facilities nationwide where the public has access to Federal archival records. It is home to more than 50,000 cubic feet of historical records dating from the 1820s to the 1990s created or received by nearly 100 Federal agencies. Serving the Central Plains Region, the archives holds records from the states of Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The facility is located at 400 West Pershing Road, Kansas City, MO 64108.
