Leslie Simon Appointed Archival Ops Director, Mid Atlantic Region
We are pleased to announce that Leslie Simon has accepted the position of Director, Archival Operations for the Mid Atlantic Region (NRB), beginning November 1, 2004. She replaces Stacie Byas who transferred to the Northeast Region (NRAN) this past January. Prior to her formal start date, Leslie will attend the Archives Directors meeting in October.
Leslie comes to NARA from CIGNA Corporation, a worldwide company with over 30,000 employees, where since 1986 she served in many capacities, most recently as the Assistant Director for Corporate Research. Previously, she was CIGNA's Corporate Archivist and Archives Manager.
Leslie brings extensive management, financial, and technical experience to the NRB position. At CIGNA Leslie created and managed the company's Corporate Research department, an integration of CIGNA Archives and Business Libraries in company offices in both Philadelphia, PA and suburban Hartford, CT. As Corporate Archivist she was responsible for the management and preservation of archival collections consisting of four thousand cubic feet of textual records, still and moving images, microfilm and memorabilia. She also launched an Archives services webpage on the corporate intranet and assisted in the development of an enterprise-wide records management program.
Leslie is also a respected member of many professional archives associations, among them The Society of American Archivists (SAA), Delaware Valley Archivists Group (DVAG), and Special Libraries Association (SLA). She is chair of SAA's Business Archives Section, and serves on MARAC's finance committee.
Leslie earned her BA from Colby College and completed dissertation course work and qualifying exams towards a PhD at the University of Pennsylvania.
