Survey Plat, used by the United States government to document grants of land.

This map is an example of the ones produced by surveyors in accordance with Thomas Jefferson's Rectangular Survey System. The Los Angeles land office used this map until the mid-twentieth century to note when parcels of land were sold to private owners or retained by the Government for public use.
