Ms. Browder writes about the Federal Theatre Project in "Finding a Creative Solution: The Living Newspaper Experiment." Mr. Heger, an archivist at NARA, discusses the Department of State's role in the New Deal in "Diplomats and the Depression: The Department of State and the New Deal." Wendy Plotkin examines "Rent Control in Chicago after World War II: Politics, People & Controversy," using records of public hearings now in the National Archives and Records Administration–Great Lakes. Clayton Brown, in "Prosperous Farms and Happier Homes: Arkansas Agricultural Extension Service, 1911–1966," points out the valuable research potential in the annual reports of Extension Service agents. Upcoming

Prologue's fall 1998 issue will contain two articles relating to the American presence in Russia during and immediately after World War I. As a total war, World War I was fought on both the military and civilian fronts. US troops were sent far from home, and perhaps the most distant posts were northern Russia and Siberia. Lt. Col. Fred Borch explores the role of the Judge Advocate General among these troops stationed far from home from mid-1918 until April 1920 in "The Experience of Army Lawyers in Northern Russia and Siberia in World War I." James D. Startt looks at another facet of total war that came to the fore during World War I—propaganda. He examines the work of the US Committee on Public Information in Russia from the summer of 1917 until March 1919 in "American Film Propaganda in Revolutionary Russia." Jennifer Davis Heaps turns our attention to World War II home front activities in her article "Clio's Spies: The National Archives and the Office of Strategic Services in World War II." William Dobak examines "Quartermasters, Commerce, and Railroads: Fort Riley, Kansas, in the Nineteenth Century" and discusses the relationship between the establishment of the fort and the growth of nearby towns.
