MEMORANDUM TO FEDERAL AGENCY CONTACTS: Inspection report on OSD Records Management
I am pleased to notify you that NARA has issued "Records Management in the Office of the Secretary of Defense: Inspection Report" (December 2010).
This report presents the findings and recommendations of NARA's inspection of the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) that was conducted in July 2010. The inspection covered three high profile elements of the agency's records management program: recordkeeping in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence [OUSD(I)]; Evault, an electronic archives containing e-mail and other electronic files; and the Executive Archives (EA) and a separate body of scanned permanent high level OSD records, both of which are important collections of electronic records.
This inspection marks the beginning of NARA's effort to conduct targeted inspections annually. Inspections focus on specific aspects of an agency's records management program.
The OSD inspection report has been posted to our website at http://www.archives.gov/records-mgmt/resources/inspections.html.
If you would like additional information regarding this report or NARA's inspections, please contact your appraiser.
