MEMORANDUM TO FEDERAL AGENCY RECORDS CONTACTS: NARA Bulletin 2010-03

I am pleased to notify you that NARA has issued NARA Bulletin 2010-03, Flexible Scheduling, dated May 3, 2010.

NARA Bulletin 2010-03 announces the availability of additional guidance to Federal agencies on using big bucket schedules and flexible retention periods for their records. This bulletin replaces NARA Bulletin 2008-04, which expired on April 30, 2009.

NARA Bulletin 2010-03 refers agencies to a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) document concerning flexible scheduling that is available on the NARA website. The FAQs contain the basic information in NARA Bulletin 2008-04 and additional information on such topics as characteristics of big bucket schedules and implementation of big bucket schedules and flexible retention periods.

Bulletin 2010-03 has been posted to the NARA web site at http://www.archives.gov/records-mgmt/bulletins/2010/2010-03.html and the FAQs have been posted to http://www.archives.gov/records-mgmt/faqs/flexible-scheduling.html.

If you would like additional information about this bulletin, please contact the Lifecycle Management Division at RM.Communications@nara.gov or on 301-837-3560.
