What Are Search Links?
ARC Search Links are Web links that open a new browser window and display ARC Search Results. Each link contains one or more keywords for ARC to search on. An ARC Search Link for a single ARC ID number will display the full details of the individual ARC description.
The ARC Galleries contain highlighted images and ARC Search Links grouped by topics. For example, the ARC Gallery on African Americans has sections on 1) Famous and Notable Individuals and 2) Highlighted Records and Images. Within an ARC Gallery, click on one of the topics to browse some selected ARC descriptions.
Using Search Links
- Click on a linked image or linked text to find ARC search results on a particular topic.

- ARC Search Results will appear in a new browser window. You can maximize or adjust the size of the new window.

- Click on any Title link to view a full description.
Refining the Search: Digital Copies
Note: Using Search Links (above) includes Steps A-C.
You can view, resort, or refine the search results. Refine your search to filter the search results for only descriptions with digital copies. See How to Search in ARC for general ARC search tips or Advanced Search Tips for ARC.
- Click Refine Search.

- Check the box for Descriptions of Archival Materials linked to digital copies.
- Click Go.

- ARC Digital Copies Search Results will appear. Click on any Title link to view the full description.

Bookmarking an ARC Search Link
Encoded ARC Search Links can be bookmarked. Bookmark the page immediately after the ARC Search Results open in the new window. Because the results pages created during an active ARC search session can not be bookmarked, viewing the search results before bookmarking them will not work.
- Click on the ARC Search Link on an ARC Gallery page or other webpage.
- Bookmark the page according to instructions for the browser. (For example, in Internet Explorer, select "Favorites" on the menu and "Add to Favorites.") The default name of the bookmark will be ARC Search Results or ARC Search Results Details, but it can be renamed.
Instructions for Creating ARC Search Links provide information about how to embed your own keywords in an ARC Search Link.
