Classification 111: Foreign Social Conditions

This classification was established in 1944 for files containing miscellaneous documentation of social conditions in foreign countries. Included is information on population statistics, health conditions, educational and scientific matters, and welfare programs. These files are information files, not investigative ones. They include documentation from agencies such as the Department of State and the Central Intelligence Agency that is passed to the Bureau for its use, as well as field office reports of interviews with refugees and defectors.
