These operational records relate to the work of the Information Security Oversight Office (ISOO) which is responsible to the President for policy and oversight of the Government-wide security classification system and the National Industrial Security Program. The ISOO program is authorized by Executive Orders (currently E.O. 12958, as amended, and E.O. 12829, as amended). The chapter is divided into three broad functional areas (Program Direction, Program Operation and Administrative) under which the records are grouped. Program Operation covers ISOOs unique functions (and most records thereof), including: Policy development; complaints, suggestions, violations, and waivers; reclassification; ISCAP - Interagency Security Classification Appeals Panel; oversight, inspection of and liaison with Executive agencies and authorized contractors; statistical collection, analysis and reporting; program improvement; training programs, and communications.
