Civil Defense
There was always the very real fear that the Cold War would turn hot. The greatest of these fears centered on nuclear weapons. Civil defense was a major concern at the national and state level. Planning for the protection of people and the nation's infrastructure was a major undertaking involving thousands of people and companies during the Cold War.
