The next meeting of the 2020-2022 term of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Advisory Committee is on Thursday, September 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET. This virtual meeting is open to the public, and registration is required. Please register by 11:59 p.m. ET on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, to receive an email with instructions for accessing the meeting via WebEx. In addition, we will livestream the meeting on YouTube. Members of the public may send questions and comments through WebEx and YouTube during the meeting or through the OGIS website at any time.

 

Richard Peltz-Steele of the University of Massachusetts Law School will present on public access and the private sector. The Committee also will hear  updates from its four subcommittees on the the following tentative topics: Classification (Glomar/can neither confirm nor deny), Legislation (FOIA fees/funding of FOIA programs , Process (first-party requests), and Technology (agency FOIA websites/metadata). Meeting materials, including the agenda, will be posted on the FOIA Advisory Committee website.

 

The FOIA Advisory Committee was established in accordance with the U.S. Second Open Government National Action Plan, released on December 5, 2013, and the directive in the FOIA, 5 U.S.C. § 552(h)(2)(C), that OGIS “identify procedures and methods for improving compliance” with FOIA. The Committee is governed by the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), as amended, Pub. L. 92-463, 86 Stat. 770 (1972), 5 U.S.C. app.
