History Happy Hour at Tom’s Town

National Archives at Kansas City
Kansas City, MO

Friday, June 22, 2018 - 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. CDT

One of the most complicated friendships during Harry Truman’s life was his long-lasting relationship with Tom Pendergast, who became a Kansas City political kingpin in the early 1930s through his use of strong-arm tactics and personal wealth. Harry Truman’s success in politics was initially attributed to support from Pendergast. It was later in his career that this connection to the boss of Kansas City almost led to his political defeat as he had to overcome the impression that he was the “Senator from Pendergast.” Historian Dr. Jon Taylor will discuss their political alliance while guests enjoy a tasting of Tom’s Town’s award-winning spirits. Only fifty seats available for this special evening. Cost to attend is $10 and includes flight tasting and appetizers. Reservations are required, must be 21-years old to attend. Program offered in partnership with Truman Library.
