Please join us for a lecture and book signing with Nancy Reagan’s White House Press Secretary Sheila Tate for her new book, Lady in Red: An Intimate Portrait of Nancy Reagan (Publish Date: April 10, 2018). This event is free to attend, however books must be purchased in the Reagan Library Museum Store to receive signature. Books may be pre-purchased during the reservation process.

Lady in Red is the ultimate collection of stories and images related to First Lady Nancy Reagan, lovingly compiled by her close friend and former press secretary. Confidante of Mrs. Reagan’s for over 30 years, Sheila Tate gives readers a rare glimpse into the personal life of the president’s wife. Tate shares her photographs of the First Family, entrusted to her by Mrs. Reagan because they were her favorite images, and includes correspondence and notes between the two friends.

Sheila Tate served as press secretary to First Lady Nancy Reagan from 1981 to 1985, handling some of the most newsworthy and controversial issues of the first Reagan term. After leaving the White House staff, she and Jody Powell, former White House press secretary to President Jimmy Carter, founded Powell Tate, which quickly became one of Washington’s most successful public relations firms. Sheila served as press secretary to George H. W. Bush during his successful campaign for the presidency in 1988, and for his transition. In 1996, she was communications director for the 1996 Republican National Convention in San Diego. Sheila remained in close touch with Nancy Reagan after the Reagan’s returned to California, speaking with her often until Mrs. Reagan’s passing in 2016.
