How NARA Has Grown
d A quick animation of several old photos of the Archives being built from September 1932 to October 1934 appear one after the other and stop at the present day National Archives-I photo. Another running animation showing NARA’s numerous facilities across the nation appears below it.

When NARA was established, we had one building. As the Federal Government has increased in size and complexity since NARA's founding, our work has grown correspondingly more complex.

Today, we have numerous facilities across the nation.  New formats and technology, such as digital photos, geographic information system data, web sites, and social media pose unprecedented challenges.  Our work demands us to be creative and innovative when developing new physical facilities and virtual storage capabilities.
