Center for Legislative Archives
d Animation showing a growing stack of top tab file folders with documents

In addition to its work with Federal agencies, NARA's Center for Legislative Archives houses the official records of the House and Senate from the First Congress to modern Congresses. These records, which remain in the legal custody of Legislative Branch agencies and commissions, total over one-half billion pages. This total grows by approximately 8 million pages per year, with nearly all the increase attributable to new accessions of House and Senate records.

To support the current business needs of the Congress, the Center responds to requests from House and Senate committees and subcommittees for the timely delivery of closed records to the appropriate authorities.
