National Airport Howard L. Chaney created this design for a large
glass partition to be placed in one of the passenger terminals at National
Airport near Washington, DC. The Art Deco design shows two airplanes,
symbolizing arrival and departure, on either side of the panel. Over the
doors, a decorously draped winged figure is borne aloft, while in the
background, one can see the outlines of a cityscape. Although several
other examples of etched glass can be seen in the airport, Chaney's design
was never executed.
