Theatre Project Designs: Set Designs As one of its efforts to employ some of the millions
of Americans left jobless by the Great Depression, the Works Progress
Administration's Federal Theatre Project produced a variety of stage productions.
In addition to hiring actors, directors, and dancers, the Theatre Project
also employed designers to draw sets and costumes for its shows. This
exhibit includes four drawings from hundreds of similar items in the holdings
of the National Archives.
