  dcterms:description "eXtensible HyperText Markup Language (XHTML) is an XML-compliant form of HTML, a markup language used for displaying documents on the web. XHTML 1.0 was a reworking of HTML 4 to create an XML 1.0 application. W3C began development on XHTML 1.0 because XML was more extensible than HTML and was more interoperable with user agents that transformed web content for specific browsers and platforms. The format received a W3C recommendation in January 2002, which was revised in August 2002 in response to community comments. Although very similar to HTML 4, XHTML had stricter rules around the nesting of elements, end tags, case sensitivity, and other syntactic requirements for valid XML documents. XHTML files are plain text. Uncompiled code that is plain text ASCII or Unicode does not require format migration." ;
