Microsoft Access 2002, also known as Access XP, was released in 2001 and included an example database. Versions of Access before 2007 use the .mdb format, which changed significantly from version to version. Microsoft Access is a proprietary file format and while Microsoft does not provide specifications, programming access through Open Database Connectivity and Visual Basic for Applications allows for an understanding of the file format. Because support for Access 2.0 files was dropped with Access 2010, these files should be transformed to SIARD or CSV." ;
