It is based on TIFF version 6.0, however TIFF/IT files are not necessarily valid TIFF 6.0. TIFF/IT defines eight different image files, usually including Final Page (FP), Continuous Tone image (CT), Line Work Image (LW), and High Resolution Continuous-Tone files (HC); and also defining Monochrome Continuous-Tone Picture images (MP), Binary Picture images (BP), Binary Line-Art images, (BL), and Screened Data (SD). TIFF/IT is an open standard and was first published by ISO in 1996. Currently, NARA retains TIFF/IT for future assessment; conversion to TIFF 6.0 may be considered on a case-by-case basis." ;
