Though it looks like a configuration file, it is used more like a setup script. It is a plain text file divided into different types of formatted sections, with each section designed for a particular purpose; for example, to copy files or to add entries to the registry. Because Windows executed code embedded in autorun.inf files without first prompting the user it provided a convenient way to propagate malware, so it was removed from Windows in 2008. Uncompiled code that is plain text ASCII or Unicode does not require format migration." ;
