Raw image files contain unprocessed or minimally processed digital camera image sensor data. To view the raw files, the output from the image sensor must be converted to a photographic rendering (processed) and stored in a viewable raster graphics format such as TIFF or JPEG. Processing may occur in the camera or through a raw file converter. Sigma encrypts data that is necessary for processing the raw image file. Due to the proprietary nature of the format, NARA recommends transforming to Digital Negative Format (DNG) for preservation." ;
