  dcterms:description "JPEG File Interchange Format (JFIF) 1.02 is an image file format that contains image data encoded with the JPEG algorithm and can have lossy compression. This file format is often referred to as JPEG, but JPEG is the encoding and JFIF is the file format. JFIF was developed by C-Cube Microsystems and Independent JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) group in 1991, and version 1.02 was released in 1992 shortly after version 1.01 came out. Version 1.02 supports more thumbnail formats than Version 1.01. JFIF 1.02 is a fully disclosed open standard, is considered an acceptable format per NARA Transfer Guidance, and is widely adopted. NARA recommends retention of JFIF 1.02 files as-is since the files can easily be opened and the format is prevalent in the field." ;
