File Format Version 5.0 was released in 2000 by JASC Software, with the corresponding PaintShop Pro Application Version being 7.0. Corel acquired and began distributing PaintShop Pro in 2005, and continues to release new versions. Although the PSP format is proprietary, there is a published format specification for version 5, and the files can still be rendered on PaintShop Pro and several other image programs. PSP version 5 files should be converted to a more sustainable format due to their proprietary nature and relative rarity, but the original should also be retained to preserve the image layers." ;
