CGM is a metafile, not a graphics format. Version 4 is codified by ISO 8632-1:1999 and adds application structuring as well as supporting all elements that were specified for Version 3. While the Version 4 specification is a revised standard, it is also an inclusive superset of Versions 1-3. The CGM format is non-proprietary, has a published open international specification, is actively maintained, and renderers are available. NARA recommends retaining CGM as-is." ;
