  dcterms:description "Macromedia Flash (SWF, Shockwave Flash, Adobe Flash) version 5 files are proprietary animation files with audio for use in interactive multimedia applications. SWF files are compiled from Flash Project (FLA) files, which are proprietary binary files. SWF files were originally developed by the company FutureWave Software in 1996. It was acquired by Macromedia the same year for integration with its Shockwave brand, and later for use with its Flash Player. Macromedia was acquired by Adobe in 2005 and re-branded as Adobe Flash, which was discontinued in 2020 and no longer supported in modern web browsers. Flash 5 was released in 2000 and has uncompressed SWF files, whereas later versions have the option of compression. Flash 5 was the first version to include ActionScript 1.0 and XML support. Due to its discontinuation and lack of an open specification, it is recommended to transform SWF files to MP4 when possible or to retain as-is if transformation is not available." ;
