  dcterms:description "Python Compiled Bytecode 3.1 (PYC) files contain binary compiled code written in the Python programming language. PYC files are created when a Python plain text PY script is run for the first time: the interpreter compiles the source code into bytecode to be executed by the Python virtual machine (PVM). Python 3.1 was released in 2009 as the second new version of the language that was incompatible with the 2.x line of releases, although some of its features were backported to version 2.7. When Python 3.1 was released all bug fixes for 3.0 were ended, bug fixes for 3.1 continued until 2012. Python has been widely adopted, is not proprietary, and has a published open format specification. Because files containing compiled source code should not be reformatted to avoid affecting the functionality, Python Compiled Bytecode files should be retained in their current format." ;
