PYC files are created when a Python plain text PY script is run for the first time: the interpreter compiles the source code into bytecode to be executed by the Python virtual machine (PVM). Python 3.4 was released in 2014 with hundreds of small improvements and bug fixes. This version received bug fixes until 2019. Python has been widely adopted, is not proprietary, and has a published open format specification. Because files containing compiled source code should not be reformatted to avoid affecting the functionality, Python Compiled Bytecode files should be retained in their current format." ;
