  dcterms:description "OpenDocument Spreadsheet (ODS) is a spreadsheet format that is part of the OpenDocument Format (ODF) for Office Applications family. OpenDocument is an XML-based open file format for office documents, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, and formulas. An ODF file is most often a standard ZIP package that contains XML content, any associated binary data, and a manifest of all files in the package, but may also be a single XML document. OpenDocument Spreadsheet uses the .ods file extension for a Zipped package (which this format entry describes), .ots for a template file, and .fots for Flat OpenDocument Spreadsheet (single XML document). The OpenDocument Format specification is maintained by the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) consortium.  Version 1.4 was published by OASIS in 2025 and included enhancements such as improved compatibility with Microsoft Office formats and additional accessibility features. Earlier versions of the format are already standardized as ISO/IEC 26300 (through version 1.2, as of early 2026). NARA recommends retaining OpenDocument Format as-is, as it is widely supported by office applications, actively maintained, and has a published open specification. All versions of OpenDocument Spreadsheet are considered preferred formats per NARA Transfer Guidance. " ;
