  dcterms:description "The Digital Negative Format (DNG) is Adobe's format intended for storing camera raw data, and also supports partly processed images (Linear DNG). DNG is a lossless format that is an extension of TIFF 6.0 and compatible with TIFF/EP. DNG files contain the main image data, metadata, and may also contain embedded JPEG previews. Version 1.6 was released in 2021, introducing semantic masks, which categorize an image at the pixel-level, and additional tags, among other features. This was the first DNG specification to articulate large file support with a 64-bit extension (BigTIFF), although the specification notes that “64-bit format support is independent of the DNG version.” Apple and Adobe worked together on DNG version 1.6, and the Apple ProRAW still image format are DNG 1.6 files with specific metadata and settings. The DNG standard is openly available and currently maintained, with tools available for rendering DNG files. NARA transforms many other camera raw formats into DNG for preservation, and recommends retaining DNG as-is. DNG version 1.6 is considered an acceptable format for born-digital photographs per NARA Transfer Guidance." ;
