Two items regarded matters raised in the lunch memo:



1.  Defense of the President.  If there was any doubt about the timeliness 

of responding to the GOP attacks on the President's truth-telling, the 

banner headline in today's Washington Times -- where Newt calls the 

President a liar -- puts this to rest.



2.  AFL-CIO views on Comp Time.  I gave you a memo from Peggy Taylor to 

David Strauss, to illustrate just how badly some parts of the White House 

are leaking to labor.  David implores you NOT to show Peggy's memo to the 

President, as this would compromise her candor to us.  I agree.  But you 

can still make the point (while protecting our source of information) that 

"someone" in labor told us that they had been told by a White House 

staffer that the only reason the President was considering action on comp 

time is because Dick Morris and polling data was pushing him toward this 

result.  That's the sort of attack that should come from our opponents, 

not our staff.
