TEXT:
Your friend Terry Bergman called me to report that per Jeri Palast's

request, she spoke to Pomeroy's staff earlier today about the

Congressman's economic assistance idaes. The conversation went well and I

pretty sure Terry gave the VP credit. I think we can cross this off the

list for now, however, we should try to remember this issue whenever we do

stuff with Pomeroy. I'll put some info in his file.

David, as you can see, I'm checking some old e-mails to see where we are

on things. How about this one?

I've left a message for Jeri Palast to get some info on Labor Dep't

programs for the economically depressed. I hope to hear back from her

this morning. The VP is scheduled to have lunch with the POTUS tomorrow.

I will do a brief memo for Ron to include in the VP's lunch memo.

Doesn't the Labor Dept. already have this type of response team? We

should check with them to see what the existing situation is.

The VP called Rep. Pomeroy last week to thank him for his support of Fast

Track. In their conversation, Pomeroy said that he wanted "to work with

us on a higher profile effort for the economically depressed." I followed

up with Pomeroy at the Fast Track thank you reception. He thinks that the

federal government should have an organization similar to FEMA that

assists economically depressed areas (for instance, when a factory closes,

Pomeroy would like to see a federal response team that helps displaced

workers get back on their feet).

The VP said that he would like to bring this up with the POTUS at his next

lunch meeting. I will give you a bullet for the next lunch memo.

Thanks, DT
