Kansas City (MO)…The National Archives at Kansas City will offer three free genealogy workshops in January. Coming to America: Passenger Arrival Lists will be held on Thursday, January 15. Becoming A U.S. Citizen: A Look at Naturalization Records will be held on Thursday, January 22. Alien Case Files (A-Files) will be held on Thursday, January 29. These workshops will be held from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. at 400 West Pershing Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64108.

Workshop Descriptions:

Coming to America: Passenger Arrival Lists - Thursday, January 15 at 10:00-11:30 a.m.

Ship passenger arrival lists have been created for different purposes throughout history, but are useful when seeking information related to the arrival of your ancestors. This course will cover types of ship passenger arrival lists, dates, forms, and search techniques.

Becoming a U.S. Citizen: A Look at Naturalization Records - Thursday, January 22 at 10:00-11:30 a.m.

Tracking down documentation of your ancestor’s path to citizenship can be a challenge. Come learn about the paperwork involved with the process and how naturalization encompassed a variety of individuals from immigrants to the native born.

Alien Case Files (A-Files) - Thursday, January 29 at 10:00-11:30 a.m.

Learn about the Alien Files (A-Files), a rich source of biographical information for family research. A-Files contain United States immigration documents generated since the mid-20th century with a wealth of data, including visas, photographs, applications, affidavits, correspondence, and more.
