Thomas Edisonís handwritten specifications for an Improvement on the Electric Lamp (page 8), November 11, 1879; Records of the Patent and Trademark Office; Record Group 241; National Archives.

On November 1, 1879, Thomas Edison applied for a patent for an "Improvement in Electric Lamps,", including this eight page handwritten specification. On January 27, 1880, Edison received the historic patent embodying the principles of his incandescent lamp that paved the way for the universal domestic use of electric light.
