Pedersen Process For Extracting Alumina From Clay

Scientists with the Tennessee Valley Authority developed a system of extracting alumina from clay to eventually produce aluminum. Alumina had been in short supply as a key component, bauxite, was imported from Great Britian and China. Local clay was abundant and cheap which allowed for a more economical production of aluminum.
