Changing the Lineup
With the creation of New Deal agencies during the inter-war years came another opportunity for the growth of the game to new locations and populations. Then, World War II brought many changes to American life that redefined what it meant to be a "typical" baseball player. With so many men and women serving in the armed forces, military installations fielded their own teams, and often, their own leagues. And men serving overseas even found occasions to participate in their perfect pastime.
