Washington, DC . . .The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) announces that it is making additional microfilm records relating to the sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic available at NARA facilities throughout the United States and on the World Wide Web. The records contain the names of some 400 of the more than 700 passengers rescued by the passenger steamship S.S. Carpathia from the Titanic disaster site.

Although Carpathia returned to New York on April 18, 1912, the list of survivors is filed with manifests dated two months later. It can be found on NARA microfilm publication T715, "Passenger and Crew Lists of Vessels Arriving at New York, 1897-1957," roll 1883 (INS Volume 4183). The list was recorded on a standard manifest form and contains 29 columns of information, including age, occupation, address, nearest relative or friend, destination, physical description, and place of birth.

Pages reproduced from the microfilm are now on display at the National Archives - Pacific Region (Laguna Niguel). The microfilm can be viewed at the National Archives Building downtown in Washington, DC, and at the regional facilities nationwide, and is available on the NARA website at http://www.archives.gov/.
