NARA to Hold Public Meeting of Electronic Records Work Group

Washington, D.C. -- The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) announced today that it will hold an all-day public meeting of the Electronic Records Work Group with its external consultants on August 26, 1998, at the National Archives at College Park facility to discuss the comments received from the public and Federal agencies on the Work Group’s proposed recommendations for replacing NARA’s General Records Schedule (GRS) 20 for Electronic Records. Members of the public are invited to observe the meeting.

The Work Group’s draft report and associated draft work products were published in the Federal Register on July 21, 1998, for a 30-day comment period. Archivist of the United States John W. Carlin encourages interested persons and Federal agencies to submit their comments to the Work Group by the August 20 deadline announced in the Federal Register notices.

The Electronic Records Work Group, with members drawn from NARA and other Federal agencies, has been charged with identifying workable alternatives to the disposition practices formerly authorized under GRS 20. Additional information about the Electronic Records Work Group is available on NARA’s GRS 20 Internet web page at http://www.archives.gov/records_management/policy_and_guidance/electronic_records_work_group.html.

The Work Group meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. on August 26 in Lecture Rooms C and D at the National Archives at College Park, 8601 Adelphi Rd., College Park, MD. For more information about the meeting, please contact Lisa Haralampus at 301-713-7100 x266.
