Films at the National Archives in November

Washington, DC . . . In November, the National Archives and Records Administration presents film screenings relating to Native American History, World War II and Vietnam.

The screenings will be held in the theater of the National Archives Building, Pennsylvania Avenue between 7th and 9th Streets, NW, and in the auditorium the National Archives at College Park, which is located at 8601 Adelphi Road, College Park, MD. All programs are free and open to the public. Free parking is available at the National Archives at College Park. The times and dates may be verified by calling the National Archives public events line at (201)501-5000. The hearing impaired should call TDD (202) 501-5404 for information.

Please Note: The theater at the downtown National Archives Building is equipped with a system that allows the hearing-impaired to use a set of headphones, or neck loop and a small receiver, to enhance the volume of the public address system. Visitors may request these devices in the projection booth.

Friday, November 5—World War II
Fei Hu: The Story of the Flying Tigers, released in 1998. During the summer of 1941, 300 young American men and women secretly trained in the jungles of Southeast Asia, preparing to face the Japanese Air Force in combat over the skies of China and Burma. Within weeks of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, their heroic exploits captured the imagination of the world. The Chinese called them Fei Hu, for the sharks' teeth painted on their planes. The world knew them as the Flying Tigers. The film uses extensive interviews and archival film footage to tell the true stories of the men and women who fought against overwhelming odds and lifted the spirits of both the American and Chinese people during the darkest days of World War II. Produced by Frank Christopher and Frank Boring. (60 minutes.) Noon. Theater.

Friday, November 12—Special Veteran's Day Screening/Vietnam War
Return With Honor, released in 1998. This critically acclaimed new documentary presents the stories of the American flyers who were captured and imprisoned in the infamous "Hanoi Hilton" during the Vietnam War. The film features interviews with 25 pilots and their wives, who present fascinating and detailed stories of survival under the most adverse conditions. Written, produced, and directed by Freida Lee Mock and Terry Sanders. (102 minutes). Noon and 7 P.M. Theater.

Friday, November 19—Native American History Month
Archival Film—Native Americans. Today the National Archives presents a selection of historical short subjects from the motion picture holdings of the National Archives related to Native Americans. Included will be Indians of North America (released in 1913, silent), Rebuilding Indian Country (released in 1933), and Indian Ceremonials (released in 1954). (70 minutes.) Noon. Theater.
