Washington, DC…The National Archives will host The Latest in Lincoln Scholarship 11th Annual Symposium at the National Archives at College Park on Saturday, March 29, 2008. A related program on the Lincoln-Douglas debates will be held on Wednesday, March 19 at the National Archives Building in Washington, DC, which is located on the National Mall at Constitution Avenue and 7th Street, NW. Both buildings are fully accessible. The symposium is sponsored by the Abraham Lincoln Institute, Inc; the National Archives; the Foundation for the National Archives; the Illinois State Society of Washington, DC; and the generosity of individual donors. Lunch will be provided.

Eleventh Annual Abraham Lincoln Institute Symposium
Saturday, March 29, 9 AM.–5 PM, National Archives at College Park, MD

Sessions will include the following:

• "How Some Few “Remarks” Became the “Gettysburg Address”" by Gabor Boritt, Director of the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College and author of The Gettysburg Gospel: The Lincoln Speech That Nobody Knows;
  
  
• Lincoln and the Mexican-American War Revisited by Professor William C. Harris, Professor Emeritus of History, North Carolina State University;
  
  
• President Lincoln’s Virtues by Professor William Lee Miller; Scholar in Ethics and Institutions, Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia;
  
  
• Why Lincoln Appointed Political Generals by Professor David Work, Visiting Assistant Professor, Texas A&M University, Qatar; and
  
  
• Lincoln-Douglas Debate Sesquicentennial by Allen Guelzo, and Douglas L. Wilson, and Rodney O. Davis.
