Declarations of Intention, 1909-1976

This series consists of the various declarations of intention filed in the court as part of the naturalization process. Beginning September 26, 1906, the court's files consist of completed Forms 2202, "Declaration of Intention." These contain the following information: name of alien, age, occupation, personal description, place and date of birth, place of residence, place of emigration, vessel upon which the alien was transported, former foreign place of residence, name of foreign country, port and date of arrival, signature, and date of declaration. This form was in use from 1906 to 1929. The form was expanded in 1929 to include the sex of the alien; the name of the alien's spouse; the number, names, ages and places of residence of any children; and a photograph of the alien. In 1941, Form N-315 replaced Form 2202. The new form contains the same information as on the earlier forms. A revision to this form in 1960 required the addition of the alien registration number. In 1970, the form was streamlined to list only the name of the alien, place of residence, and alien registration number.
