70th Anniversary of President Truman’s Decision to Recognize Israel with special guest Ben Stein

Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum
Independence, MO

Monday, May 14, 2018 - 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. CDT

Ben Stein will headline a program to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Recognition of Israel. Seventy years ago, on May 14, 1948, at midnight, the Provisional Government of Israel proclaimed a new State of Israel. Despite objections by his advisors, President Truman official recognized Israel just 11 minutes after midnight. The creation of a Jewish state in Palestine by the United Nations was one of the most divisive issues of the Truman administration and serves as one of President Truman’s most courageous decisions. This program is offered in partnership with the Truman Library Institute. Send email to truman.events@nara.gov to RSVP.
