America 250: Exploring the Past, Present & Future Influence of First Ladies

Since Martha Washington served as the “mother of the country” at the start of the nation’s founding 250 years ago, only about 50 women have served in the role of first lady. It’s an unpaid role that’s not in the Constitution, leaving these women to mold their own paths as symbols of American womanhood, power, and influence.
“I hope some day someone will take time to evaluate the true role of the wife of a President and to assess the many burdens she has to bear and the contributions she makes.” – Harry S. Truman
Join us for an engaging event the morning of Saturday, March 21, with some of the foremost experts in the nation on first ladies. This event is free and open to the public with books by the speakers available for sales and signings.
All events listed in the calendar are free unless noted.
