Brexit: Why the British Voted to Leave the European Union – And Will They?

Featuring Dr. Lawrence Goldman

As the nationalist wave influenced elections near and far in 2016, the UK electorate responded similarly by passing a referendum that we’ve come to know as “Brexit.” But the election results were only the beginning of the political drama and economic implications triggered by leaving the European Union.

Join us for a public program featuring British professor Dr. Lawrence Goldman, who will trace the history of the U.K.’s relationship with Europe and its roots dating back to the post-war era of Truman’s times. We will explore the details of the referendum and the current dilemmas in the midst of this transition as the official date of departure looms.

Former Editor of the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Lawrence Goldman is a Visiting Fellow at the Kinder Institute for Constitutional Democracy at the University of Missouri. He most recently served as the Director of the Institute for Historical Research in the University of London. Educated at Cambridge and Yale, during his career at Oxford he has taught modern British and American History and published on both.

This program will be preceded by a free reception. RSVPs are requested.
