Evening Panel Discussion with American Public Square

On Thursday, April 19 at 6:30 p.m., the National Archives and American Public Square will present an evening panel discussion titled East is East, West is West: Segregation in Kansas City. This program will take place at the Johnson County Central Resource Library, 9875 West 87th Street, Overland Park, KS. Reservations are requested for this free program.

Kansas City remains one of the most segregated metropolitan areas, both racially and economically, decades after housing discrimination and school segregation were outlawed. Join a panel of experts for a fact-based, civil conversation on the past, present, and future of addressing segregation in Kansas City. The panelists include Tanner Colby, author of Some of My Best Friends are Black: The Strange Story of Integration in America; Arthur Benson, local civil rights attorney; Sly James, mayor of Kansas City, Missouri; and Michelle Wimes, chief diversity officer at Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C.
